How to Grant Meta Ads Access to an Agency (Step-by-Step Guide)
If you’re planning to partner with Amplify to manage your Meta Ads (Facebook and Instagram), the setup process is straightforward. This guide walks through the steps required so we can begin managing campaigns effectively.
We created this guide so that new partners can clearly see what’s involved and complete the setup at their own pace. Most organizations can complete everything below in 15–30 minutes.
Once these steps are finished, we’ll be able to configure campaigns, build audiences, and begin running ads. Note: You will need to be an Admin in Meta Business Manager to execute the following steps.
Step 1: Confirm That You Have a Meta Pixel Installed
Before running ads, your website should have a Meta Pixel/Dataset installed. The pixel allows Meta to track website activity and helps optimize ad performance over time.
If you already have a pixel installed, you can move to Step 2.
If you’re unsure, or if you do not yet have one installed, follow Meta’s instructions here.
The pixel is important because it allows Meta to:
Optimize delivery toward people most likely to take action
Track conversions from ads
Build website-based audiences for retargeting
Improve campaign performance over time
Without a pixel, Meta has significantly less data to work with and the ads will be less effective (often, far less effective).
Step 2: Grant Amplify Access to Your Meta Business Manager
To manage ads efficiently, our team needs access to your Business Manager assets. Granting partner access ensures that our staff can work within your account without requiring login credentials.
Log in to Business Manager
If you do not see business manager settings, click on the help button on the bottom left corner, and then click on “Business Manager.”
Go to your Meta Business Manager.
Click the three horizontal lines (☰) in the top-left corner and select Business Settings under the Settings section.
Access the People & Partners Section
In the left-hand menu:
Users → Partners
Click Add to assign a new partner.
Add Amplify as a Partner
In the “Add a Partner to Your Business” dialog box:
Select “Give a partner access to your assets.”
Enter Amplify’s Business Manager ID (we will provide this in email).
Assign Permissions
We recommend enabling full access so our team can properly manage campaigns.

After reviewing permissions, click Next and then Invite.
If anything looks different on your screen, feel free to send a screenshot and we can help.
Once completed, please let us know so we can accept the request.
Step 3: Provide Audience Data to Train Meta’s Algorithm
One of the most important ingredients for successful Meta Ads is data that helps the platform understand who your ideal audience is. Without good audience data, ads can struggle to perform because Meta has less information about who is most likely to respond.
There are several ways to provide this data, and one of the most effective methods is to upload a list of your customers or subscribers to Meta. This is something that your ad agency cannot do for you, since it requires access to your internal customer database.
You can upload:
Customer email lists
Newsletter subscribers
Past buyers
Donors
Event attendees
Course participants
Membership lists
It is best if you can segment the list into smaller groups. Examples include:
Lists by gender
Highest lifetime value customers
Different product buyers
Lead sources
Donors vs subscribers
Customers who purchased multiple times
Name Each Audience Clearly
Clear naming helps us quickly identify how audiences should be used inside campaigns. Helpful naming examples:
Customer List – All Customers
Customer List – High Value Buyers
Customer List – Newsletter Subscribers
Customer List – Event Attendees
Customer List – Donors
Customer List – Course Buyers
Clear naming helps us build more effective targeting and lookalike audiences.
How to Upload Customer Lists
Meta provides step-by-step instructions here.
Once the audiences are uploaded, please let us know so we can begin building lookalike audiences from them.
Additional Ways to Create Seed Audiences
Customer lists are not the only way to provide audience signals to Meta. Other strong seed audiences include:
Social Media Engagement
People who like your Facebook Page
People who follow or engage with your Instagram account
People who interacted with your Facebook Page
People who interacted with your Instagram account
Video Viewers
If you have videos on your Facebook or Instagram Page that performed well, we can build audiences of people who watched a significant portion of the video (such as 75%).
These audiences are often highly engaged and can work well for retargeting or lookalike audience creation.
Website Visitors
Once your Meta Pixel has collected data for a period of time, we can create audiences such as:
Top 10% of website visitors
Visitors to a specific page
Visitors who viewed product pages
Visitors who reached checkout pages
These audiences can help improve both targeting and optimization.
What Happens Next
Once we have:
Business Manager access
Pixel access
Customer audiences uploaded
We can begin:
Building targeting audiences
Creating lookalike audiences
Configuring campaign structure
Launching ads
From there, we focus on ongoing testing and optimization to improve results over time.
Need Help?
Meta occasionally updates its interface, so the steps above may look slightly different depending on your account. If you get stuck at any point, feel free to send a screenshot and we’ll help guide you through the process.
Once everything is set up, we’ll confirm access and move forward with campaign planning.
Thank you for taking the time to complete these setup steps and for partnering with Amplify. We appreciate the opportunity to work together and look forward to helping you grow your reach through strategic social media advertising.
